Transcript: Environmental Compliance By: Travis McHann Machine Guards and personal protection The Safety and Health program is to inform you about potential hazards and problems in the workplace In this lesson I learned about Personal protection, Chemical hazards, fire prevention, Noise in the work place, Machine guards and the Environmental Compliance. Machine guards protect parts of the human body from being electrocuted, cut, squashed or hit by flying fragments. machine guard also protect the equipment from foreign objects. Never wear watches, rings, ties, bracelets, scarves, or loose clothing while working with machinery. Loose hair is also a hazard, as well as a rag patially tucked into a pocket hanging out. Chemical Hazards The OSHA discussed most of the safety and health guidelines. Another federal initiative The Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) requires the EPA to check the national air quality standards. The Clean Water Act governs water pollution control, regulating discharges of pollutants to U.S waters. Excessive noise can lead to permanent hearing loss To protect your ears if you cannot control the noise level wear ear protection Noise levels are measured in units called decibles If the noise level exceeds the permissible level, unwanted sound must be engineered out or you have to wear ear protection Summary Fire Prevention The purpose of the safety and health program is to recognize, evaluate, and control potential hazards in the workplace. Noise Make sure you know the types of chemicals you are using and the hazards involved Safety and Environmental Health Safety And Environmental Health Chemicals can enter the body through the skin, by inhalation, or by ingestion. make sure to wear personal protective devices when handling chemicals When disposing of chemicals, do not pour them down a drain or sewer Paper dust or antisetoff powders may explode if concentrated where a spark could ignite the mixture Ink and solvent-soaked rags must be placed in an approved and covered metal waste can. pick up dust with a vacuum cleaner Don't blow dust with a air hose Report leaking solvent containers Wipe up solvents and oil spills
