Earth Presentation
Transcript: What Causes the Seasons? Have you ever wondered what causes the seasons? The earth spins on an imaginary pole that goes right through the middle of the earth The earth spins in its spot and around the sun. Each time it spins in its place that would be 1 day[24 hours] each time the earth spins around the sun it would be 1 year [365 days] the earth is tilted so while it is spinning around the sun different parts of the earth are getting more or less sunlight . so when the earth is half way a round a full turn the northern hemisphere is having summer and when it comes to a full turn the southern hemisphere is having summer. look at this picture to help you understand the seasons So that means that seasons are caused by the rotation of the earth around the sun and the tilt of the earth. have you ever wondered? Day and night is caused by the rotation of the earth the earth spins in its place which causes sunlight to hit different places of the earth when we are facing the sun it would be day and when we are facing away from the sun it would be night Axial Tilt Do you know what axial tilt is? I can tell you Axial tilt is explained by astronomers as the angle between earth's rotational axis and a line perpendicular to the orbit of earth. axial tilt is the cause of seasons on earth. nocturnal nocturnal is when animals sleep during the day and hunt at night. These animals usually will be able to see in the dark. some examples of these animals are: owls, bats, gray wolfs, hamsters and hermit crabs. Diurnal diurnal is when animals sleep at night and hunt and eat during the day. some examples of diurnal animals are: elephants, squirrels, gorillas, deer and lizards. the September equinox is a moment when the sun appears to cross the equator going south. After the moon will seem to be getting bigger and bigger because we will be able to see the sun shinning on the moon after it makes a full circle it will start it's cycle over again. the September equinox signals the starting of fall and that the days are going to be getting shorter. Tides are caused by the pull of gravity on the moon. Whichever way the moon is facing the water seems to go that direction. Spring tides occur when there are full and new moons. "What happens is that the lunar water tides on the Earth go away, but the solar water tides still occur, but with less amplitude. There are still daily high and low tides, but they would be smaller. There would be no 'Spring' or 'Neap' tides though. The December solstice is when we experience the shortest day of the year this could happen any time between the 20th and the 22nd In the summer everything burns because it is so warm you have to water your grass lots because in one day your grass will burn. Some animals will be down by rivers and creeks cooling off and looking for berry's and fish. axial tilt The Atlantic and Pacific coast tides are alike because they both get pulled by the moon and the sun. They also share the "two high two low" tide rule. They are different because they are doing the opposite of the other when the Atlantic ocean is having high tide the Pacific ocean is having low tide. the December solstice is a marking of the shortest day of the year after that day the days will start getting shorter by a little each day. If the Moon Were to Escape, What Would Happen to Earths Oceans? due to differences between the calender year and the tropical year the September equinox can happen any time between the 21st to the 24th of September. Nocturnal and Diurnal Different tides happen when the moon and sun are in different places. Thanks for watching! Fall In winter some animals such as bears and bats hibernate during the winter. Tides are different all over the place, but do you know why? It depends where your local coastline is and where the sun and moon are located. In the water different places have storms on the water that makes the water go in or out faster than other places. Some forecasts are able to tell when high tide and low tide happen. What is a luner eclipse This makes the difference between high tide and low tide have small differences. winter Summer the equinox could happen any time between march 19th to the 21st In fall the leaves change colour and fall off the trees. It gets colder and the animals start eating and gathering tons of food because they are going to hibernate. Tides A lunar eclipse is when the moon goes directly behind the earth into its shadow. This can only happen when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned with each other, or very close. It also has to be a full moon for it to occur. EQUINOX March Equinox December solstice Why aren't the Pacific and Atlantic Coast tides the same? march equinox is a time in march when the sun appears to cross the equator going north. a full cycle is 28 days The June solstice is when we experience the longest day of the year this will happen on the 20th or the 21st the seasons effect how animals live and plants grow they also effect humans and
