Tech 7 10/11/12 Deborah Read Accomplishments Franklin was the 8th child of his father's second wife (number 15 out of 17 total). He married Deborah Read, and together they had three children, although only two of them survived to adulthood. King Louis XVI Benjamin Franklin's lifespan of covered almost all of the 18th century. He was in his 50's and 60's when America was fighting for independence. People like George Washington, Thomas Jerfferson, and Samuel and John Adams were significant figures of the time. King George III of England and King Louis XVI of France also played significant roles in during the Revlotion. Family Benjamin Franklin died on April 17, 1790. Although Franklin had many accomplishments, there area few that stand out more than others. Before the war, he helped to repeal the Stamp Act. He was also an ambassador to France during the American Revolution and helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris, which ended the war with Britain. Ben Franklin was a printer, inventor, and scientist. In 1729, he began printing The Pennsylvania Gazette with Hugh Meredith. Transcript: Obstacles that Franklin faced Why Ben Franklin was special THE END What shaped Ben's life? Some obstacles that Ben overcame was that he was pulled out of school as a child by his father so that he could go work at his tempermental brother's newspaper shop. His father did it because he said the family needed money. He has serious gall stone problems He spent most of his life away from his family- he spent most of his time in France. Some things that shaped Benjamin Franklin's life was when he started writing songs for his brother's newspaper. He then wanted to help his other brother heal so that's when he created the catheter, which is still used today. 3 adjectives that describe Benjamin Franklin Intelligent- He is intelligent because, he was always trying to find a way to invent new helpful objects. Thoughtful- Franklin is thoughtful because, he created the catheter to help his sick brother. He created contact lenses becuase, he was tired of taking his glasses on and off. Adventerous- Ben is adventerous because, he was always thriving to improve. Benjamin Franklin and his positive out look Ben Fanklin has a positive effect on America. He had a positive effect because, still today we use many of his inventions such as; contact lenses, bifocal lenses, day light savings time, flexable catheter, the long arm, odometer, glass Armonica, swim fins, lightening rod, etc. Benjamin Fanklin was special because, he created contact lenses, bifocal lenses, and many other devices that we still use today. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Benjamin Franklin invented many items throughout his life. When Ben was only 12 years old, he became a printer's apprentice to his older brother. At the age of 16, Ben wanted to writes for his brother's newspapers under the fake name, Silence Dogood. Ben was 17 years old when he finally ran away to Philadelphia For two years, Ben traveled to London in search for printing jobs, but he decided to return to Philadelphia to open up a new printing shop for himself. In 1729, Ben bought a newspaper company called "The Pennsylvania Gazette". It quickly became one of the most successful and popular newspapers of the colonies. In 1733, Ben started to publish "Poor Richard's Almanack", which was an almanac figuring many information about the colonies. In 1754, Ben drew and published "Join or Die" political cartoon in "Gazette". His persuasive diplomatic ability made a huge impact on the American Revolution. Without his assistance in France, America may have never become an independent nation. Not only was Ben a remarkable statesmen, but he was an innovator and an inventor. Today's communities were developed by Franklin. The basis for fire departments, hospitals, and the postal service were initially mentioned and created by Ben. His many inventions helped improve the way of life for many colonists. In his own words, "Applause waits for success" and Benjamin Franklin was one of the most successful men and intelligent men that this nation has ever seen. During the 1740s, Ben Franklin was wealthy enough from printing business to be "retired" from working at the shop. This "retirement" allows Ben to work on his life long interests in science. Ben conducted experiments that contributed to the understanding of electricity. Eventually, in the late 1740s, Ben developed the first lightning rod. In 1752, Ben performed his famous kite experiment. Ben did not just do electricity experiment, but he also conducted studies on meteorology, ocean currents, refrigeration, human body, fire prevention, etc. He became the first scientist to figures out the Gulf Stream and published his findings to shippers in order to cut the travel times. He came up with an idea of Daylight Saving Time in 1784.
