Transcript: Our prezi by: Devin AND JOSH!!! Dances in the 20's were fast paced and energetic just like the citizens There were 3 main dances of the 1920's. The Charleston, the Fox-trot, and the Shimmy The Charleston is done by swinging your arms, moving the right foot back then kicking the left foot back. both arms and feet return to starting position then right arm moves forward and left arm moves back. Little hops are done between steps. The Fox-trot is done by 2 partners. This dance is built off of constant steps, forward, backwards, and side to side. No special moves for this dance The Shimmy is done by standing still and moving your shoulders back and forth. when the right shoulder is back the left one is forward. This is done with a slight bend in you elbows and arms held out Dance marathons were main events on the weekends for most young adults held in most cities across the U.S. The marathons consisted of MCs, Bands, Nurses, Doctors, Cots (type of bed), Dance floors, Barbers, Manicurists, and Podiatrists. Dance marathons were contests where couples would dance for often hundreds of hours, sometimes for months to win prize money. Many people died at these dance marathons so in retaliation, most states outlawed the marathons due to being unhealthy and life risking. The dance marathons effected the african americans because they created the marathons so it gave them something to do on their spare time. THE END The marathons in different cities usually had different rules.

Transcript: *Greetings, Alexandra Rattiff *Undergrad student *Florida A & M University To make this all a reality my goal is to do a thorough five to six weeks of research. I will organize a preliminary research method weekly. On the Haitian Contra Dance this schedule On weeks 1 and 2, I will research the haitian contra dance in rural communities . On weeks 3 and 4, I will proceed with my research of webbing a plan on grasping and harboring, surveys and methods of applying research. On weeks 5 and 6 my research will predominantly focus on The contra haiti dance and its basis of interest. Methodology Interest Video Some issues that stimulated my research interest during the Haitian Revolution are during the wars, how did they manage to stay calm. Thats when dance takes place, they held several ceremonies that consist of dance and religous rituals. Dance was their spirtual way of getting through the circumstance. The Dance Haitian contra dance was a slave dance that many people performed at special events, this dance was also a way they could express their emotions and have fun. Some key sources that I've researched are the Haitian revolution video, dance history and a book named haiti history . Dance in the Haitian Revolution The following sources explain what happened during the Haitian Revolution and how Haiti gained their independence. In the beginning this France colony was divided and the east half was broke and continued to get in wars. The colony came together as one to defeat others and gained their independence. Also, the text give several examples of dance cultures. The authors are Istwa Damou and Toye Danse What Role dance play during the Haitian Revolution? This video shows different dances such as the Haitian Contra dance and the many more dances used during the Haitian Revolution. Background The historical time period was from 1791-1801 and some geographical locations shown in the map beside are in the Caribbean sea islands as Gonâve, Tortue and, Grande Caye My interest in this topic is Haiti's a part of my culture. My grandmother is french, haitian, and black. Also, I love learning about things from the past that relates to my culture. I will benefit from undertaking this project by gaining more knowledge of dances during the Haitian Revolution as well as informing others. This project address my overall goals because teaching others dance about the Haitian Revolution always been my overall goal in life as well as getting a dance studio to teach history about the dance movements as well as dance. Questions Literature Review The resources needed to complete this project are surveys, research, and videos. Some things that may limit my liability to complete the proposal is not having enough research and the challenges of paying for the proper research. as well as collecting enough surveys from the population. However some strategies that I will use to help with these concerns are saving bi weekly for the proper research and get more surveys by advertising and spreading the word about surveys while at work, school and bible study.
