Because my parents are better cooks than me Why are they better at cooking than me? Because they are highly experienced and I never took the time to learn from them while I was living at home Why didn't I try to learn from my parents while I lived at home? Because I always had a 5-star meal on the table and didn't see the need to know how to cook or be anything more than the official taste-tester until once I moved out on my own Why did I not foresee the need to be able to cook? Download cooking/food Apps on my iPhone and iPad 3. Buy fresh ingredients at the beginning of each week and buy the essentials It is a progress. I have started to read about food, use StumbleUpon, and watch more of the FoodNetwork I have realized that this isn't a sacrifice. It is an interest I have made to pursure. I have chosen not to eat out as much so that it forces me to cook things at my house. It has made me a lot less rushed and gives me a time to relax in the evening. Unfortunately, I started drinking more expensive wine. I still need to accept the fact that my palette is more advance than my techniques. It's like trying to scuplt a masterpiece without knowing the fundamental techniques of sculpture. Main Dishes in Ireland: Famine that occurred in Ireland when the potato crop failed in successive years. By the early 1840s almost half the Irish population, particularly the rural poor, was depending almost entirely on the potato for nourishment. The other crops could not grow because of water mold which ruined the crops. Irish stew is a filling, flavorful dish made with the cheapest ingredients. The Irish raised sheep and root crops for the dish. And finish it off with a touch of the ingredients juices. Shepherd’s pie may have originated in England, but it was adopted by Irish people many years ago. I grew up eating shepherd’s pie. Shepherd’s pie is comfort food at it’s finest, especially when it has a little Irish flavor thrown in. When the Irish emigrated to America and Canada, where both salt and meat were cheaper, they treated beef the same way they would have treated a "hamburger joint". At home in Ireland, they soaked it to draw off the excess salt, then braised or boiled it with cabbage, and served it in its own juices with no spices. Main Spices: Irish use very little spices in their food, Fresh herbs are commonly used in their food with butter and cream. Apart from salt and pepper: they flavor their dishes with the common spices. Parsley, Sage, Thyme, Rosemary, Bay Leaves, Parsnip, Ale , and Meat Broths. Food Patterns: The Irish diet and food patterns are very similar to that of Northern European countries. It generally consists of meat, poultry, or fish, with veggies and starch. Their diet is high in protein, primarily from meat and dairy products. Milk, cheese, meat, cereals, and some veggies form the main part in the irish diet, until potatoes were introduced to them in the 17th century. Many root veggies are eaten commonly. (ex~ Carrots, Onions, Turnips) Number of Meals in a Day: The average person would eat the standard three meals a day. As well as some people may have snacks throughout the day. 1st- Breakfast at 8:30 2nd- Lunch at 12:45 3rd- Supper at 6:45 - Ireland is a 6 hour time difference from Canada. For 200 years, the stone itself is still set in the wall below the battlements. To kiss it you must lean backwards from the parapet walk. Therefore, Irish people eat a lot of Fruits ,Veggies, and Grain products but not enough Milk products. The two hands around the heart symbolizes friendship and being together.
